| Text driver guilty of causing death of cyclist
As a friend of Jordan's family, I would just like to say I am glad to see justice is being dealt out. Too many people get away with murder these days! Yes, Jordan was wrong to ride through red lights but, she was totally out of line to be texting and speeding. Considering the fact that she already had speeding tickets under her belt, she deserves to be punished. I hope she has learnt her lesson and doesn't abuse the speed limits and law ever again. Will she have her licence taken away? Nothing will bring Jordan back and my heartfelt sympathy is with his family. They have to live with the loss of their son for the rest of their lives. She has to live with the guilt of killing someone. .
I-Team on the scene in Washington (Live Blog)
They were told not to talk to her, yet Roger Clemens talks to the nanny and told her he wasn't there. I don't know what you call it - it smells." 2:35 P.M.: On a second round of questioning, Rep. Cummings said, "If I walked in here and it was Even Steven, the person I believe most is Mr. Pettitte. You admit yourself he is a truthful guy." Cummings then went back to how Pettitte could lie when both he and his wife Laura both testified otherwise. "I am certain, when Andy Pettitte used HGH, why didn't he tell me he used HGH? Andy and I are close friends. If he misheard me, then he misunderstood that." Cummings later thundered that "It's hard to believe" Clemens. "You're one of my heroes. It's hard to believe." Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) referred to McNamee as a drug dealer.
The Juesheng Si (Temple of Awakening) and Its Historical Vicissitudes
The Juesheng Si (Temple of Awakening) was built in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing in the 11th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1733). It was located in Zengjiazhuang Village outside Xizhimen (Straight West Gate), one of the gates of the walls surrounding the city of Beijing. The area was dotted with pines and cypresses, plots of farmland and cottages. Smoke ascended slowly from kitchen chimneys. Green hills rose and fell in the distance. It was a superbly quiet place for followers of Buddhism. Since the Temple of Awakening was built under Yongzheng's imperial edict, you can still find the horizontal stone board above the main gate, edged with the pattern of dragons flying through water and clouds. The board bears the characters "The Juesheng Temple Built by Imperial Order" inscribed by Emperor Yongzheng.
Tiger passes Arnie, wins 6th in a row
MARANA, Ariz. - What's left for Tiger Woods? Win every tournament he plays? He's off to a perfect start to 2008 (3-for-3) after his Sunday stroll-in-the desert wipeout of Stewart Cink that won the $8 million Accenture Match Play Championship. The proportions of Woods' 8-and-7 victory are historic, but this is ground he covers casually these days. It's not only the widest margin of victory in the 10-year history of the tournament, but it also moved him past Arnold Palmer on the all-time PGA win list into fourth place with 63 career wins, one behind Ben Hogan. It's also his sixth victory in a row overall, dating back to last season. The greatest show in golf shows no signs of ending early. .
Amy Winehouse Stumbles Through EMA Performance; Plus Justin Timberlake ...
Amy Winehouse stumbled through her performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards on Thursday (November 1) shortly after giving a very brief acceptance speech when she won the Artists' Choice honor. The singer — who was announced as a last-minute addition to the show when she canceled her planned performance at the mtvU Woodie Awards on November 8 — gave a brief "thanks" when she accepted the award, and later appeared to have difficulty remembering the words to her own song and danced unsteadily as she performed. And while this year's MTV Video Music Awards belonged to Justin Timberlake (and Rihanna), JT wasn't able to replicate his success abroad at the EMAs. While he was the most nominated artist, he left with no awards — and maybe even more stunningly, he was outdone by Avril Lavigne, who nabbed Most Addictive Track ("Girlfriend") and Solo Artist of 2007.

Why the Grammys really need Amy Winehouse
Meet Miley") and "American Idol" (Daughtry, Carrie Underwood). And the Eagles had huge success by ignoring the major labels and going directly to their fan base by selling their album at Wal-Mart. A prime-time TV "event," itself a product of a simpler era when there were only three major networks, needs big stars and big hits to thrive. And the Grammys are hurting in that department. Winehouse, one of the music industry's few rising stars, is up for six Grammy nominations this year, but she hasn't sold even 1 million albums -- for decades the platinum standard by which mainstream hits were measured. Yet just because there are no mega-stars on par with "Thriller"-era Michael Jackson doesn't mean music has lost any of its cultural importance. On the contrary, more people are listening to more music than ever.
Islanders ink Mike Comrie to one-year extension
The Islanders scratched another potential unrestricted free agent from their list before Tuesday's 3 p.m. trade deadline - agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract extension with top scorer Mike Comrie. They also moved some salary in trading defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron and removed a recurring headache in cutting bait with lightning rod winger Chris Simon, whose season included more games lost to suspension than actual appearances for the Islanders. Simon, who last week returned from a 30-game suspension for skate-stomping Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu in December, was dealt to Minnesota for a sixth-round draft pick. The 36-year-old Simon, a 17-year veteran with First Nation roots and longtime ties to Isles coach Ted Nolan, also was suspended 25 games for a stick-swinging incident against Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg last March.
Sicilian reggae performer wows Jamaica
A Sicilian-born singer with pale skin and strawberry-blond hair has become one of reggae music's most unlikely heroes after emigrating to Jamaica. Watch Alborosie do his ting on YouTube Alberto D'Ascola, a 32-year-old policeman's son who performs as Alborosie, has conquered the Caribbean island after acquiring dreadlocks, a strong Jamaican accent and the swagger of a reggae star in the seven years since he arrived in Kingston. .
Universal Buys Univision Music Division
Seeking to become el grande in the growing U.S. Latin music market, Universal Music Group on Thursday said it had agreed to buy Univision Communications Inc.'s record division, the Los Angeles Times reports. The purchase price was nearly $140 million, according to two people close to the negotiations who asked not to be identified because the financial terms were confidential. The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, would more than triple Universal's share of the Latin music market to about 49%. And it would expand the range of the world's largest record company into such popular niches as regional Mexican music, Latin pop, Latin rap and hip-hop. "This deal is about following the changing demographics of the population of the country," said Zach Horowitz, president and chief operating officer of Universal Music, who negotiated the deal.
Lisa Abeyta: Thin say: I'm fat. I say: Oh, stuff it.
I purposely bought it too small as an incentive to stick to my diet. I really want to wear that skirt on vacation this year. I sigh and find my way back to my seat and take another sip of my now lukewarm coffee. My friend makes her purchase and sets the muffin on a napkin in front of her seat. It is only inches from my coffee. I watch her tear a small bite from the muffin and realize I'm worse than my puppy, who watches every single forkful of food and licks her lips in anticipation of a crumb that might fall her way. If I keep lusting after my friend's muffin, I'm going to start whining and begging for scraps. In fact, I have to tell myself not to pick up the fairly large crumb that has fallen back onto the table. We finish our coffee, and she finishes her muffin without my help.

Google Wants Your Medical Records
The don't want insurance companies to know if they are getting new insurance, and maybe banks if they are trying to get a home loan, but guess what both of those groups get the information. It was doctors that used the AIDS scare as a scare tactic to get HIPAA pushed through, oh, go protest, they are going to discriminate against people with AIDS, so go out and call them all sexists, and embarrass them into passing this very, very bad law, that not only doubled the cost of medical treatment in the us, but exposes the public to bad doctors/medicines for a much longer time before they are discovered. Doctors and hospitals didn't like that lawyers were mining databases of medical records finding patterns that allowed them to easily detect bad doctors and bad hospitals.
