| WCC NEWS: Service celebrates WCC's 60th anniversary
Gathered in a church dating from the 12th century, the World Council of Churches seemed like a relative youngster as it celebrated its 60th anniversary Sunday 17 February. But His All Holiness Bartholomew I, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, reminded the near-capacity congregation at Geneva's St. Pierre Cathedral that the WCC has accomplished much in its six decades. "The Council has provided an ideal platform where churches with different outlooks and belonging to a great variety of theological and ecclesiological traditions have been able to engage in dialogue and promote Christian unity, while all the time responding to the manifold needs of contemporary society", the Orthodox leader said, speaking in French. He acknowledged the challenges and "turbulent" periods in the Council's life, but said that dialogue resulted from those difficulties and has paved the way forward.

As Berean Academy faces yet more tragedy it teaches us about hope
Whether you are a praying person or not, keeping the Berean Academy community in your thoughts is important during this second term of the 2007-08 school year. The school again has been faced with the kind of adversity schools would rather not face. Once again, the school is dealing with the death of students. It’s coming on the heels of another community loss and, God willing, bringing to an end a set of challenges dating back to May. Throughout the last year, the school has been teaching that being a Christian doesn’t automatically mean nothing bad will happen. But being a Christian can provide the inner strength to deal with tragedy when it strikes. Nowhere is that more apparent than Berean Academy in Elbing. The Christian school has seen tragedy during the last year and displayed the inner strength needed to deal with it as it comes.

Now I Know Why I’m an Elitist Snob; it’s Neurological
Science is one of those things that, unless you live in a particular field (and I don't mean agricultural field) you are going to be one of the last to hear something new. That being said, the sheer weight of people outside of any given scientific field as compared to those within, would suggest that we on the outside are the norm, and those on the inside are the aberrations. Nevertheless, with many advances in scientific knowledge, it takes the rest of the world a little while to catch up. This is definitely the case with a discovery that was published in the journal Neuron, not within the last few weeks, but back in May of 2006. Authored by Jason Mitchell and Mahzarin R. Banaji, of Harvard University, and C Neil Macrae, at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, the journal article is entitled "Dissociable Medial Prefrontal Contributions to Judgments of Similar and Dissimilar Others." Now I love scientific journals, because once again we refer back to my "inside/outside field" effect.

Alicia Keys - 'Like You'll Never See Me Again'
And if anything, it's probably just laziness on the part of whichever artist directors were responsible for their album cover shoots. Maybe even the same person did both. In which case never mind, eh? I realise that opening paragraph was rambling, but in my defence, I find it a struggle to find anything all that interesting to say about Alicia Keys or her music. I've never been that convinced by her. Obviously I believe that she exists, but I've never been sold on her as a concept. For all the fanfare and flag-waving, I tend to find her songs a little on the hollow side - dressed up nice and pretty, but with next to nothing on the inside - and this one really hasn't made me think otherwise. She has a knack of crafting a very pleasant sounding melody, don't get me wrong - the backing here is an acoustic waterwheel that trickles gently and inoffensively through your head.
Brandy Won't Be Charged In 2006 Car Crash; Plus Yung Joc, Lil Wayne ...
He faces a possible sentence of up to 18 months for the charge. ... Lil Wayne told MTV News a couple of months ago that he was planning to drop Tha Carter III: The Leak on December 18, with the official Tha Carter III LP to follow February 12, but he actually slipped out a five-song EP called The Leak through Rhapsody and Amazon on Christmas Day instead. The disc features "I'm Me," "Gossip," "Kush," "Love Me or Hate Me" and "Talkin' About It." "Gossip" has been rumored to be a dis song directed toward 50 Cent, but as Weezy told Mixtape Monday in late October, "I recorded that song in 2006. ... I don't make records or say anything about people. I don't beef with people. Everybody knows that. ... My words are more important than you."... Radiohead decided to split with their longtime label EMI in the fall after the company's new boss, Guy Hands, rejected a deal that would have cost the company more than $20 million, according to the London Times.
Goodbye Heath Ledger, Rest In Peace
The 28-year-old was born in Perth, Western Australia. He left school at 17, hitched to Sydney with barely a dollar in loose change in his pocket and got his first real break in a low-budget film called Blackrock (1997). A part in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) put him on the map. He won plaudits for a cameo in Monster's Ball (2001), and revealed an unexpected talent for comedy in A Knight's Tale (2001). He could have played the beefcake, the heart-throb, over and over again: he was startlingly handsome with playful eyes and a broad-shouldered swagger. But he didn't. Reviewing his CV you realise it is littered with curios, parts he obviously took on for love or just the challenge, perhaps most notably his turn as Jacob Grimm in Gilliam's wonderfully bizarre homage to The Brothers Grimm.

A Few Minutes Well Spent
Linked to numerous terror plots, he is believed to have financed the first World Trade Center bombing, helped set up the courier system that resulted in the infamous Bali bombing, and cut off Danny Pearl's head. A second was Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the head of al-Qaeda operations in the Persian Gulf. He allegedly played a role in the 2000 millennium terror plots and was the mastermind behind the USS Cole attack that killed 17 Americans. The third was Abu Zubaydah, said to be Osama bin Laden's top man after Ayman al Zawahri and al-Qaeda's chief logistics operative. It is believed that Zubaydah essentially ran al-Qaeda's terror camps and recruitment operations. After he was waterboarded, Zubaydah reportedly offered intelligence officers a treasure trove of critical information.
