Citrus Park: Honoring enduring love

Of the group of more than 200 that attended the Citrus Park 50th Anniversary Party, Gale and Lois Easton have been married the longest.

The couple met at a carnival when he was 16 and she was 13. That day he drove her home in his 1928 Whippet convertible and caught heck from her mom.

They eventually started dating, and dated on and off for several years. They finally got married Aug. 1, 1938, in St. Louis, when he was 21 and she was 18. He served two years in the Air Corps as a second lieutenant at Childress Air Base in Texas, and finished his duty shortly before the war ended.

The couple later settled in Illinois, where she retired as a bookkeeper in 1960 and he retired from the railroad in 1980. The couple went on to have one daughter, who later expanded their family to three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Whither Shakespeare? He's backeth, baby!

Lots of famous people are on MySpace. But a good number of them are long dead.

Every dead poet, philosopher, artist and past president you can think of has a MySpace page -- and many are presented in the first person, as if Thomas Edison and Joan of Arc are lounging at home in their pajamas, posting pictures and updating their blogs.

Benjamin Franklin recommends that his visitors read a bio that's posted on the site. "Maybe," he writes, "it will help people realize that flying a freakin' kite wasn't my greatest accomplishment."

Charles Darwin has gotten tired of people spamming his page. So he'll be approving comments before they're posted, thanks.

And George Washington asks us: "Who rocked the revolution? ... That's right, I did."

The Internet can bridge distances, bringing people together across continents.

Statistics support Logan air service

The market for air service is solid and the operation can be expected to make a profit for the airline. Then wouldn't Frontier come without a guarantee program? NO, simply because of demand and supply. There are a lot more communities on the waiting list for new or expanded air service than there are aircraft and pilots. Only those communities willing to share some of the start up risk with the airline will be selected."Is it really worth a $1 million gamble to find out if it's a good idea?" The answer is YES because the odds are very high for success. Rather than a gamble, it's more a leveraging of investment in the airport and the community. The amount of the incentive fund, and the involvement of both public and private partners, sends a strong message to the airlines that the community is supportive and committed to a successful start up.

Dental Practices Heat Up When Coworkers Date

One in five dentists admits to having an office romance in a recent Wealthy Dentist survey. Though getting involved with a coworker is generally unprofessional, risky and likely to lead to heartbreak, a few dentists do find their lifelong partners working at their dental practice. .

Slain Marine's ATM card found in Carolina bus station

The search for that suspect, Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, was "Earthwide," Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said at a news conference Monday. He said the FBI is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone providing information leading to Laurean's capture.

Brown also said Monday that police were unaware Lauterbach had taken out a military protection order against Laurean in May.

Laurean has evaded authorities since Friday, when his wife gave authorities a note the Marine had written saying Lauterbach, 20, had killed herself and that he had buried her in the backyard of their home near Camp Lejeune, police said.

Brown said he expected Laurean was getting help in hiding and asked friends or family to turn in the Marine corporal if he makes contact.

"I would imagine he's getting help ...

Weekend preview: Elite teams flock to weekend tournaments

Since 2004, Houston's Minute Maid Park has been the center of the college baseball universe in February. The Houston College Classic (formerly the Minute Maid Classic) has earned a reputation as the unofficial kickoff event to the college baseball season, attracting bunches of elite teams and scores of scouts and scouting directors eager to get an early look at some of the nation's top talent.

This year's Houston College Classic figures to be another strong event -- you can expect fireworks anytime rivals and perennial national powers Rice and Texas get together, and unranked teams like Tennessee and Oklahoma have intriguing young talent -- but it's no longer a can't-miss stop on the college baseball calendar.

The Feb. 22 uniform start date has created a proliferation of early-season tournaments from coast to coast.

Articles gave distorted picture of East Hanover

EDITOR: I am writing to address two front-page articles from your Feb. 7 edition, which have been bothering me since I read them. The first one is the headline "No More Benefits for Part-timers," the subtext reads "East Hanover to Reign in Insurance." Now, I agree that part-timers should not get benefits but I was under the impression that the only ones eligible were elected officials and that none were currently receiving them.By ending your article with ‘Health benefits had previously extended to all township employees,’ you make it sound as if previous administrations had given them to all those people in the list you included in the article; everyone from the elevator sub code official to summer life guards. Please check and find out how many employees lost their benefits and how much money the township saved. My guess on both counts is zero.Secondly, your article on the East Hanover Council honoring John DePola with a plaque implied that he had been slighted by the prior mayor, Bill Agnellino and not presented with any recognition when he left office. Mayor Pannullo is even quoted "it was a long time coming." Baloney, at the last meeting of 2006, Mayor Agnellino honored John DePola with an engraved clock in thanks for his service to the township. I just wonder what was the need for this distortion and grandstanding? .

Changing the Script on Teen Pregnancy

Need I remind you of the news that teenage pregnancy rates have gone up for the first time since 1991? It's expected that 750,000 teenage girls will get pregnant this year. With, by the way, some help from boys. We've spent about $1 billion on the taxpayer scam known as abstinence-only education. And Jamie Lynn Spears announced her pregnancy, saying, "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Whatever the cost to actual teenage mothers, it isn't paid by their stars. The only one paying a price for Spears's pregnancy is OK! magazine, which reportedly put up $1 million for her pronouncement. (I'm OK! You're OK! Even if you're 16 and pregnant.)

I don't want to return to those wonderful yesteryears when Dan Quayle took on Murphy Brown. But we're navigating some pretty tricky cultural waters here.

Ashlee Simpson's chin: I don't get it

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz attended Clive Davis' Grammy bash and, sweet mama, that's a chin. Seriously, Ashlee should consider shaving that thing down a few inches if not a foot. I've got a belt sander in my garage. I'd be more than happy to give it a go. Though I can't guarantee I won't "accidentally" slip and sand Pete Wentz in the mouth. But don't worry, should that happen, I won't enjoy it. No matter how hard I might laugh and say "I enjoy this! This is enjoyable." Also ignore the tattoo on my arm of Darth Vader feeding Pete Wentz a belt sander . Purely coincidental.

Rains: Jackson a true fighter

It's a story of sorrow, sadness, emptiness and now triumph. His well-documented past, including the deaths of four family members and two close friends, has given Jackson a path to success that few others will be able to achieve.

Tragedy after tragedy continued to follow Jackson in recent years, and he thought more and more about quitting school and returning home to be with his family. He almost did, according to a recent article in Sports Illustrated magazine that I recommend you read. Not one of us would have questioned his decision, and we would have supported Jackson and wished him the best. Family comes first, and it would have been too much for almost any of us to take.

But not Jackson. He decided to do the opposite, turning a sub-par KU career into one that will probably ensure his selection in the upcoming NBA draft.

Jonas Bros.' appeal goes past Disney

LOS ANGELES: Most young men can be forgiven for not knowing what they'll be doing two days from now, much less two years. Not the three siblings who comprise the hit trio the Jonas Bros. The superstars-in-the-making have every day mapped out for the next 24 months.

If you're not a 'tween/teenage girl or don't live in proximity to one, you may not yet be in on the phenomenon created by 20-year-old Kevin, 18-year-old Joe and 15-year-old Nick. They opened for Miley Cyrus on her fall Hannah Montana tour to the delight of shrieking girls everywhere. Their song, S.O.S., catapulted to No. 1 on iTunes. Their second album has sold more than 900,000 copies. And that's just the beginning.

Earlier this month, the band became the youngest act to sign a deal with concert presenter Live Nation.

World News

It suggests the removal of Net access of those people who persistently download and share copyrighted material. ISPs now have to redefine their position even though the 2002 e-Commerce Regulations defined these firms as ‘mere conduits’ and not responsible for the contents of the traffic flowing across their networks.

The legal issues, like laws on surveillance explicitly prohibit ISPs from inspecting the contents of data packets unless forced to do so by a warrant.
