Mandisa has successfully made the transformation from a popular Top 10 contestant on season five of American Idol to a Grammy-nominated Christian singer.

She became the first new female artist to debut atop the Christian album charts, and her single "Only the World" was a multi-week No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales Chart. She's also written a book, Idoleyes: My New Perspective on Faith, Fat & Fame, and become a spokesmodel for Ashley Stewart stores.

Christian acts headed to Tri-State

Newsboys, Casting Crowns and several other Christian bands are set to play the Tri-State in coming months.

Among the best-known acts coming to town are the Newsboys, a group that was formed in Australia in the 1980s. Since then the group, with some lineup changes, has sold more than six million albums. Now based in Tennessee, the group has five gold albums, several Dove Awards and more than 20 No. 1 radio singles to its name.

Christian music's largest annual tour makes a stop in Wichita on Saturday, offering entertainment the whole family can take in.

Here's a quick look at the participating artists:

NewSong

Touring legend and Christian hitmaker NewSong launched the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular in 1994 to give fans a chance to hear multiple artists with a gospel message.

The group has made 17 CDs and had 20 No. 1 radio singles. "The Christmas Shoes" became a No. 1 mainstream radio hit and inspired a best-selling book as well as a TV movie.

The album by the same name was nominated for a Grammy Award for best pop/contemporary gospel album in 2003.

Senior defender Matt Pinder, also of the men's lacrosse team, anchored a Limestone defense that only allowed three goals in the Saints' season opening 22-3 win against Lees-McRae.

Online FarmersOnly matchmaking service lets singles in rural America ...

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Sonya Rinker was looking for a guy: someone who was kind, respectful and had a special place in his heart ... for John Deere tractors.

She didn't know that somewhere along these rolling Pennsylvania hills there was such a man, a shy guy named Tom with two vintage Deere tractors. He had been looking for a gal, someone who'd put up with his milking cows at 3 a.m. and his six-day work weeks.

Sonya Rinker and Tom Henisee lived 57 miles apart when they both signed up for an online matchmaking service designed to link up people just like them -- farmers and others who know their way around a barn and a milking machine.

Playing the dating game isn't easy in rural America: Tens of thousands of twentysomethings have moved out in recent decades, small towns have shrunk, younger farmers have become a dwindling commodity

Sonya was just 24, but already worried and eager to find a mate.

Getaway car in "100mph police chase" - court

Shuck also pleads not guilty to dangerous driving on the A4440 Broomhall Road in St Peter's, Worcester, and on various lanes in the Norton and Littleworth area.

Alarms went off at the DVLA office just before 11pm that night. An hour later PC Otun saw the Mondeo pull into the viewpoint car park.

Because it suddenly left, he gave chase and told the jury: "I was doing in excess of 100mph near the St Peter's gardening centre and wasn't getting close to the Mondeo. Numerous items were thrown out. At the time I was fearful for my life."

One object later recovered was the 18inch long metal safe. Money was later seized from a third man who has pleaded guilty to burglary, said Miss Crabb.

PC Otun said at Hatfield Bank the Mondeo stopped and two rear passengers fled, one wearing a jacket with distinctive white stripes on it.

Spirit West Coast preparing to rock Del Mar Fairgrounds

DEL MAR, Calif. — The All-Stars of Christian music are coming to town.

On Memorial Day weekend, May 23 to 25, thousands of Christians will gather for the fifth annual Spirit West Coast festival at the Del Mar fairgrounds. This event, along with its sister concert to be held July 31 to Aug. 2 in Monterey, is the only multiday Christian music festival in the southwestern U.S and ranks as one of the premier Christian music festivals in the nation, drawing more than 40,000 visitors from California, Arizona and Nevada.

Festival director Jon Robberson equates the atmosphere at Spirit West Coast to the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics.

"It has a similar energy and dynamic," he said. "There is a spiritual power in coming together."

Robertson stresses the importance of believers gathering in an inter-denominational spirit of unity.

"If you never come together, you don’t sense the dynamic," he said.

Mansion 'mistake' piles the pressure on Barack Obama

I do think it is important to take a look at the backgrounds of presidential nominees, but when a story gets published, the words need to explain everything and be factually accurate, an article should not convey something to be a truth that it cannot prove.

SPORTS-N-REC: Nease shuts out Lake City 28-0 in regional semifinal ...

Beaches-area athletes showed no rust from the Thanksgiving layoff, feasting on competition throughout the state. Here are this week's top performers and events:

n Friday night lights: The Nease High School football team blanked Lake City Columbia 21-0 at home Nov. 23 in the Class 4A regional semifinals, marking the second time this season the Panthers have shut out their district rivals. Last month, Nease was a 28-0 winner in Lake City to claim the District 5-4A title.

Despite a more physical game and new offensive formations from the Tigers, the Nease defense held Lake City running back Tiger Powell to just 63 yards. Even though Nease senior quarterback Ted Stachitas was blitzed early and often in the game, he rushed for 69 yards, including 3- and 30-yard touchdown runs. Senior Graham Bates added a 28-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Panthers.
