Aaahhh, I guess it's about the individual afterall, not about the ...

I sympathize with "non-retained" above, because I suppose some of your leaders weren't confident enough to help you with your struggles. If you, like I, can still come out stronger and with answers to the things that caused you to seek, question, and struggle in the first place, then think of the power for good that you can be in the lives of other members of the Church when they too confront things for the first time that might have jarred their faith. Having walked that sometimes frustrating and lonely path, you'll be more equipped to help those who come to you in an interview expressing doubts than others were with you in the past. .

Black loses final bid to remain free on bail

In three days, Conrad Black will go from Lord Black to inmate 18330-424.

Yesterday, Lord Black lost a final bid to remain free on bail while he appeals his convictions for fraud and obstruction of justice. The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh District ruled that Lord Black must report to prison by 2 p.m. Monday to start serving his 61/2-year sentence.

The Chicago court did allow two others convicted with Lord Black - John Boultbee and Peter Atkinson -to remain out on bail because they were found guilty of fewer charges and face less jail time.

All of the convictions relate to a $6.1-million fraud at Hollinger International Inc.

"I am surprised and disappointed, but remain optimistic that we will ultimately prevail on the appeal, as we have what in my opinion are extremely strong grounds for overturning all the convictions," said Andrew Frey, one of Lord Black's lawyers.

Not long ago, Boston had one of the worst farm systems in baseball. From 2002 through 2004, a total of just five of its players were rated among the top 100 prospects by Baseball America.

This year's ranking is drastically different: seven of the top 100, including Ellsbury at 13 and Lowrie at 73.

"I think if we are able to add a (minor league) player a year to the major league team we would be extremely fortunate as an organization," Mike Hazen, Boston's director of player development, said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "With all the pitfalls of minor league baseball and the inherent roadblocks that exist, while it sounds easy, I don't think in actuality it is.

"I think if Jed continues to progress like he did in 2007, he will have an opportunity at some point to impact our major league club."

Lowrie hit .297 in 93 games at Double-A Portland then .300 in 40 games at Triple-A Pawtucket.

County wades through IRS tax discrepancies

ERIE — Errors made on Neosho County's employer's quarterly tax returns from 2006 continue to haunt the county.

The Internal Revenue Service will be conducting a compliance review regarding the County's financial procedures. This is less involved than the examination review, commonly called an audit, that county officials thought was going to occur. An examination review is still a possibility depending on the results of the compliance check.

“She [IRS agent Allison Jones] said that she wanted to go back and come at this from a teaching-learning perspective," said County Clerk Randal Neely.

“If she can come down and help us through, working with us under the compliance check, I'm thrilled. Obviously, our end result is that we all want to be operating under the correct procedures."

According to County Coordinator Roger Daniels, the problem was discovered when the commissioners asked Schlotterbeck and Burns, Certified Public Accountants, Chanute, to look at the payroll after some county employees had expressed some concerns.

President Bush Declares March Red Cross Month

In a tradition dating back to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President George W. Bush declared March as Red Cross Month, calling it a time to "honor this charitable organization" and "reflect on its remarkable achievements and contributions to our country."

In a Proclamation signed today, the President cited examples of how the Red Cross had provided food, comfort and medical assistance to the victims of a number of disasters in 2007, from the tragic bridge collapse in Minnesota to the devastating wildfires in California. He also noted how the Red Cross provides vital assistance by organizing blood drives, teaching health and safety programs, and supporting our men and women in uniform.

Throughout the month, 750 Red Cross chapters across the country will celebrate in a variety of ways, including holding special events, trainings or fundraisers to give people an opportunity to support the organization through donations of time, money or blood.

Neighborhood terror pit bull will be confined, not killed

Wilson filed a complaint against Tyler Doman at the urging of animal control officers, forcing Friday's hearing to determine if the dog, Princess, is potentially dangerous.

Kelly said incidents concerning the 55-pound dog, and statements from witnesses, indicate she is.

Wilson said the Domans agreed to a demand made by the city that Princess be housed in a "secured and locked kennel with a concrete floor" while on their property.

He said other demands were agreed to, including keeping the dog licensed and vaccinated, microchipped for identification, and getting it spayed. Concerned neighbors said Princess recently gave birth to six puppies.

Wilson said the Domans have 30 days to comply with all terms.

When off the owner's property, the dog will have to be muzzled and leashed, the order states.
