MARY ROSE AND CUTTY SARK GET £31M HERITAGE LOTTERY FUNDING
One of the world's oldest surviving warships, the 16th century Mary Rose has been saved once again after being awarded a £21 million Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant, amid fierce competition for funds. In July 2007, the Mary Rose Trust had been unsuccessful in its bids to secure HLF funding for the ship's preservation and a new museum designed by award-winning architects Wilkinson Eyre. After the latest announcement, with plans now going ahead, the cash injection will also bring 19,000 rare artefacts, found with the ship, under one roof for the first time and allow completion of a 26 year conservation project. .
New beginnings come with hard work for AWC softball
Hard work. Its been a popular phrase for the Arizona Western College softball team dating back to last August and leading into the beginning of the 2008 season, and it probably will stay that way with Angel Shamblin at the helm. Leading by example, the Matador head coach has been busy at work not only putting together a roster for her first year, but making sure she that roster will be playing together as a team in time for their first two games today against Southern Idaho and Salt Lake Community College in the 2008 Great Western Shootout. "Its been crazy coming in when I did, but its all been positive crazy," said Shamblin, who was hired on Aug. 6 after Pam Stone's 14-year run ended last June. "The main thing I've tried to emphasize is work ethic, which the girls have responded well to.
Spirit West Coast music festival is feast of personal ministry time
DEL MAR, Calif. Outside the glow of concert lights and beyond earshot of the main stage at Spirit West Coast, a small army of volunteers uses the lure of the music festival to minister to hundreds of music lovers from across California, Nevada and Arizona. It’s an aspect of the festival that Producer Jon Robberson finds especially rewarding. "Regardless of the music style, the message of Jesus and His love permeates the music at Spirit West Coast," the festival’s Web site boasts. "The message of faith in Christ is delivered in many other ways, always with the paramount purpose of impacting people with the gospel of Jesus Christ." This year, that message of faith will be delivered May 23 to 25 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Keynote speakers One of the ways Robberson and his crew encourage ministry is with the nightly lineup of speakers and comedians.
Three Tools Saddleback Uses to Help People Grow
But really its about personal growth. Its a paradigm we designed to help people grow spiritually. Its not about building attendance; its about building an army of people serving God. Its not just about building hearers of the Word; its about building doers of the Word. If you want to build doers of the Word in your church, youve got to be intentional about growing people spiritually. Your people will grow spiritually when they make commitments to spiritual maturity. Saddleback Church is built on people who have made deeper and deeper commitments to Jesus Christ. We encourage people to make these commitments in three ways. First, we encourage people to move through six levels of spiritual commitment. We put everybody in our community in one of these levels of spiritual commitment.
Lloyd and Kearney bid for double triumph
The West Wilts Table Tennis League Championships come to a climax on Saturday with the finals of the events in the four main age groups being played at John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge. With county and national ranked players competing for honours, a high standard of play is anticipated. The first match will be the junior singles final between number one seed Alex Kearney and Billy Ho (number three), in a repeat of last year when Kearney emerged a comfortable winner. This will be followed by the veterans' singles final between Trevor Lloyd, the current holder and number 1 seed, and his team-mate Ricky Jemmott (number two). At the championships weekend held earlier this month, Lloyd partnered Jemmott to win the men's doubles title and successfully defend their veteran doubles crown.

Hip-Hop Rumors: The Late Edition! Diddy's New Girl! Give Saigon Free?
Somebody I know is in South Africa and told me that “Iron" Mike Tyson is out there too! Guess what? Iron Mike has cause a whirlwind of issues, because of his rape conviction! ANC (African National Congress) president Jacob Zuma cancelled a party for Mike in South Africa after the people protested his co-signage of the ex-champ. That's a rumor, because according to the statement released, Zuma didn't show due to a more pressing engagement. Oh well, Mike is still Mike! He's over there doing some boxing commentary and I heard that Winnie Mandela has no issues with the Champ. What more is there? I don't know, but its not a lot. FREE SAIGON, FREE SAIGON? Rumor has it, Saigon's album has been pushed back again. I understand that Saigon is very unhappy with his position at Atlantic and currently looking for a new deal.

They added that they were not satisfied with the Section under which the employees had been booked.
Celebrate yourself
You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his 'proper place' and will stay in it. You do not need to send him to the back door. He will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he will cut one for his special benefit. His education makes it necessary." - excerpt from The Mis-Education of the Negro by Carter G. Woodson Every February, schools, churches and community organizations across the U.S. gather to celebrate the history and achievements of African America. It's a tradition that dates back to 1926 when historian Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson established the first Negro History Week. Woodson, the son of ex-slaves James and Anne Woodson in Canton, Virginia, taught himself to read and write and did not attend school until he was 20.

Hughes is a young, front line starting pitcher, one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, and had a fine performance in the playoffs. Cabrera is a young centerfielder who would have aptly filled a void left by Torii Hunter's departure. The Red Sox made two proposals to the Twins. One was Jon Lester, another young pitcher who would also be a front line starter on most other teams, who pitched great in the World Series, and other prospects. The other was Jacoby Ellsbury, an exciting young centerfielder who would have filled Torii Hunter's position more than aptly, and other prospects. I'm really not crazy about the Mets prospects. Phil Humber has not excelled at any professional level after a stellar college career at Rice. He also had Tommy John surgery. I'd rather have Hughes or Lester.

Former drug ranch resurfaces as luxury retreat
For two decades, Rancho del Rio has loomed in the public consciousness as a misbegotten parcel of unfulfilled dreams. It was a haven for a convicted marijuana and cocaine smuggler. Former Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates later envisioned it as a law enforcement training center and retreat for law enforcement. Then, the Girl Scouts Council of Orange County bought it, in part with cookie money, and dreamed of developing a campground there until they grew weary of hauling in portable toilets and water. The property never quite worked out for the current property owners either, but it did capture their hearts. Privately, the family who bought it two years ago have taken to calling it "Shamrock Ranch" because, an associate said, every time you're there, you feel lucky.
