Christian music galore

Christian music's largest annual tour makes a stop in Wichita on Saturday, offering entertainment the whole family can take in.

Winter Jam Tour 2008 is hosted by the band NewSong and features a lineup of five other bands as well as nonmusic entertainment.

Here's a quick look at the participating artists:

NewSong

Touring legend and Christian hitmaker NewSong launched the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular in 1994 to give fans a chance to hear multiple artists with a gospel message.

The group has made 17 CDs and had 20 No. 1 radio singles. "The Christmas Shoes" became a No. 1 mainstream radio hit and inspired a best-selling book as well as a TV movie.

The album by the same name was nominated for a Grammy Award for best pop/contemporary gospel album in 2003.

Three from Limestone named players of week

Thomasville, N.C. -- Limestone College's Christian Munn, Brendan Storrier and Matt Pinder were recognized as NCAA Division II Conference Carolina Players of the Week on Wednesday.

Munn, a member of the men's tennis team, aided the Saints in an 8-1 win over North Georgia at the No. 4 singles flight. Along with doubles partner Thomas Olliveier, Munn also picked up a win at the No.1 doubles flight and was 2-0 for the week.

Storrie, a junior, received Offensive Player of the Week honors as a member of the men's lacrosse team after recording 13 points from seven goals and six assists in his first two games. Senior defender Matt Pinder, also of the men's lacrosse team, anchored a Limestone defense that only allowed three goals in the Saints' season opening 22-3 win against Lees-McRae.

Christian acts headed to Tri-State

Newsboys, Casting Crowns and several other Christian bands are set to play the Tri-State in coming months.

Among the best-known acts coming to town are the Newsboys, a group that was formed in Australia in the 1980s. Since then the group, with some lineup changes, has sold more than six million albums. Now based in Tennessee, the group has five gold albums, several Dove Awards and more than 20 No. 1 radio singles to its name.

We don't really need them to score when they're getting the ball to guys, where they're getting the ball to them," the coach said.

Through intense film work and through the expected maturation of the 24-year-old Ford and the 26-year-old Calderon, the duo is learning to make better decisions and discovering the intricacies of their teammates in a revamped rotation that has two new starters and three new key backups.

"It doesn't matter that much," said Ford. "Each individual, I understand their game, I know what those guys' tendencies are and I just change up my style depending who's in the game.

"I watched so much film growing up as a kid and in college and I sort of got away from it in the NBA. Now coach Mike (Evans) gets with me every day, after every game, we study the good decisions I make and the bad decisions."

Calderon, meanwhile, returns with another boost of confidence from a successful summer with the Spanish national team, which finished second in the European championships.

Chanelle fumes at Best's model fans

Chanelle Hayes flew into a rage when three models started flirting with Calum Best while she was trying to talk to him, say reports. Hayes started throwing cushions around Chinawhites nightclub after Jamie Leigh, Gemma Hiles and Fiona Graham started chatting to Best, claims the Daily Star. A source said: "Chanelle was getting on very well with Calum until the trio of sexy girls moved in on him. "When it became obvious he was taking them home, she flipped and started hurling the silk cushions from her sofa in their direction." She also reportedly warned footballer Jermain Defoe's ex-girlfriend Charlotte Mears to leave her friend and fellow Big Brother star Danielle Lloyd alone. Lloyd is currently dating Defoe, and Mears blames the former Miss England for ending her relationship with the England striker.

Small Talk: Totting up our winners and losers

As Christmas is rapidly approaching, this seems like a good time to review the Small Talk year. And on reflection, it is no exaggeration to say that we have played a blinder.

But we also ought to confess that we have got some stock picks dreadfully wrong. Such is life for any tipper, and making the right choices at the small cap end of the market is notoriously difficult. Our best calls have been on the downside. It is not fun predicting doom and gloom for companies. But companies and the market getting it wrong is as much a part of investing as looking for the next 20-bagger, and we believe that short selling, while not likely to win any popularity contests, is a legitimate method of making money from pricing anomalies and correcting mis-priced securities.

In March, we warned investors to steer well clear of ChoicesUK, the CD and DVD retail group, after a profit warning that came swiftly on the heels of a much more bullish update just weeks before.

Call for GCSE languages regrade

The Association of Language Learning (ALL) had suggested to a review of languages by Lord Dearing that there should be adjustments to the grading of GCSEs to redress what it said was the imbalance between languages and other subjects.

England's QCA, in a report, says there are counter-arguments and that instead the focus should be on improving teaching and raising pupils' performance.

It says: "The present examination system is not based on an aptitude-based conception of comparability and its adoption would create a major threat to public confidence in students' results.

You Can't Sue For Trademark Infringement Forty-Five Years Later ...

If you're a music fan, and you hear of a band called "The Wailers," your first thought is most likely to be the band originally formed with Bob Marley, which continued to perform well after Marley's death. However, there's apparently another band called "The Wailers" that was formed in Seattle in 1959, pre-dating Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer getting together at Studio One in Kingston for Coxsone Dodd in 1963. Obviously, that was a long, long time ago, so it was a bit strange that the Seattle Wailers sued the Jamaican Wailers back in June for trademark violation. Considering the two bands had coexisted in some manner for 45 years, you would think there wouldn't be much of a problem. In fact, the Seattle Wailers only registered a trademark on the name in 2003. And, while they complained that the Jamaican Wailers owned the wailers.com domain name, that was registered before 2003.

Funny-Looking Swimsuits: Generation gap evident

The lake waits placidly for the bright morning sun to finish rising over the surrounding hills covered in trees colored jungle green.

An inn sits on the shore, observing the light blue sparkle of the water. It is about five minutes to 8 in the morning and the restaurant of the inn is preparing breakfast items for consumers.

The mother, Abby, has made a date for her recently divorced father, Bob, with a woman named Pat, who is from England. Pat has come with three other friends, consisting of Linda, Betty and Betty's husband Dick -- all from New Jersey. There is an air of desperate attempts of making good first impressions as Abby introduces the four to Bob, her husband Chuck, and her two daughters, Lauren and Hannah.
